Assemblyman David Tangipa is “surprised but grateful” to be vice chairman of key committee

“Our budget is like gambling with a grenade,” Tangipa said, pointing to the state’s overall issue that it’s spending more money than it’s bringing in despite healthy revenues. Tangipa noted this is expected to leave massive deficits in the years after Gov. Gavin Newsom leaves office. “The bill is coming. We are going to have to pay it one way or the other,” he said. Tangipa said he doesn’t put all the blame on the governor for the state’s money problems.

“I may have to be the budget bad guy that has to have the hard conversation and bring back accountability.” Tangipa said. “We can’t just say it’s Gov. Newsom’s fault if we’re allowing it.”
